Spring 2016

As the days get longer and the mornings brighten up, I'm looking forward to  a really exciting year. The UFQ are touring in the UK from March 5th, through April and then on into a festival season that looks set to be another heady mix of folk festivals (such as Towersey and Shrewsbury) contemporary festivals (which I'm itching to announce but can't just yet) and a couple of trips to Europe. We've been working on some new material and you can watch a behind-the-scenes video from a recent rehearsal below this blog. All confirmed UFQ dates are up to view on the gigs page - it would be great to see you somewhere!

A quick special mention to the UFQ Workshop day, 20th March. It's always a fun, high-energy day including one-on-one tuition, group percussion work and band playing skills, so if you're looking to brush up on your playing in an enjoyable, collaborative way, drop me a line via tom[at]tomchapan.net

Some other, non-UFQ gigs coming up:

19th March - Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar's Album Launch, Chester. I'm continuing my sideline in becoming the third member of Folk Award winning or nominated duos by joining the boys to launch their new album!

23rd April - Lee Sankey And Friends, Bludeqnz, Austria. Myself, Dan Walsh and Chris Quinn are joining Blues Harmonica maestro Lee Sankey for a one off gig in Austria.

30th April/1st May - Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra at Swingamajig Festival, Birmingham. We're going to give the eletro scenesters a taste of some acoustic swing!

Just one more thing before I sign off. Five years ago I launched what became two series of cajon and setup tuition videos, "Approaches To Contemporary Cajón" at iDrum Magazine. Sadly, with the magazine changing hands and becoming subscription-based, these videos were lost. I've decided to launch a new series, with an updated angle which will focus on setup playing, on my Youtube channel - check out the first video over at tomchapmanmusic and there'll be more very soon.

Don't forget, you can reach me via email, twitter, facebook or via this form if you've got any questions - I currently have a few spaces available for tuition in person or via Skype, so if you're interested, just drop me a line and snap one up!

See you somewhere!
