In recent years my efforts have been put more and more into helping others get their music heard.
I've helped several record labels, promoters, festivals, and venues get good music heard, and rooms full of bums back on seats. I've worked with dozens of acts to help them connect with their audiences more sustainably.
In 2020 I gave a 'Change Makers' masterclass for The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, on digital marketing for independent creatives. I've gone on to teach, and speak about ‘The Artist as Entrepreneur’ at The University of Chester, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and elsewhere.
I believe in independent music because I am an independent musician myself. The independent sector has the healthiest, fastest, most ethical growth of the whole music industry.
Now is undoubtedly the best time there has ever been to build a career around what you create, without artistic sacrifices, whilst maintaining ownership of it.
Perhaps you're an artist who is sick and tired of feeling like social media is a necessary evil. Maybe you're in need of some strategy to make the most of your existing fanbase. Perhaps you're intrigued by the idea of actually using music to.... market music.
Alongside long-term, deep work to make UFQ's relationships with our fan community something indie, sustainable (currently averaging 20 direct-to-fan orders every day) and truly fun, working with exciting artists and organisations to market authentic art has become a real passion.
Making and performing music is still my raison d'être.
It seems that being able to speak the languages of what often feel like the two very foreign countries of art and marketing is where what I do differs from what others offer.
